AOGS was established in 2003 to promote geosciences and its applications for the benefit of humanity, especially in Asia and Oceania and with an overarching approach to global issues. The Atmospheric Sciences (AS) is one of the eight sections of AOGS. In each AOGS section every year, one Distinguished Lecture shall be delivered by an early career researcher under the title Kamide Lecture. The award is named the 'Kamide Lecture Award' in honor of Professor Yohsuke Kamide, one of three major founders of AOGS. To award her contribution in data assimilation and its application for earth systems, Professor Lili Lei was nominated by the Atmospheric Sciences section for the Kamide Lecture Award.
