Zhemin Tan elected as the President of the Chinese Meteorological Society

On May 9, the 29th Member Representative Assembly of the Chinese Meteorological Society was convened in Beijing. The assembly elected the 29th Council of the Chinese Meteorological Society, a new Board of Supervisors, and its new leadership. Zhemin Tan, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was elected as the President of the Chinese Meteorological Society.

Professor TAN is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chair Professor of Meteorology, and Professor of Atmospheric Science at the School of Atmospheric Sciences of NJU. Professor TAN's research focuses on the fundamental theoretical research in the atmospheric dynamics, tropical cyclone, and atmospheric predictability. He acted as Vice President of the Chinese Meteorological Society, member of the International Commission for Dynamic Meteorology (ICDM), Vice-Chairman of Chinese National Committee for THORPEX, Co-Chair of the Discipline Evaluation Group for Atmospheric Science of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and member of the Advisory Committee of the Earth Science Division of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He now serves as the Chairman of the Chinese National Committee of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP), Vice President of the Chinese National Committee of International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS), member of the Chinese National Expert Committee on Climate Change, Director of Atmospheric Sciences Teaching Advisory Committee of the Chinese Ministry of Education, and member of Program Establishment and Teaching Guidance Committee in Higher Education of the Chinese Ministry of Education.

The Chinese Meteorological Society was established in October 1924 with the aim of promoting the progress of meteorological and climatological academia. It is one of the earliest national natural science societies established in China.
